PICTURE: Potential 5-3-2 formation under Louis van Gaal

Manchester United look set to roll with a new formation under Louis van Gaal, as the 62-year old Dutchman has been trying out the 5-3-2 setup that he utilised with his Holland side in the World Cup. Whilst very secure defensively, it also opens up the options going forward, with Luke Shaw and Antonio Valencia providing the width.

Personally I feel this setup suits us perfectly, the squad is very top heavy in terms of strikers and #10s, and all our outright wingers really struggled for form last season.
The fluidity that this line-up provides is excellent. Whilst attacking, the back line goes to a back three, and defensively they shift to a back five with Luke Shaw and Antonio Valencia dropping back.  It allows Juan Mata to start in his best position rather than out wide, and its probably the only formation that accommodates Mata, Rooney and Van Persie in the same team.
