Relentless World Cup Star Eager To Join Man Utd - Report

Feyenoord defender Stefan de Vrij is eager to join up with former Netherlands manager Louis van Gaal at Manchester United ahead of interest from Lazio, reports the Daily Express.
De Vrij’s impressive displays in the Eredivisie last season, and for the Netherlands during the World Cup, have attracted interest from across Europe, and Lazio had believed they were leading the chase for the 22-year-old.
The defender is expected to leave Feyenoord this summer, and the club’s sporting director Martin Van Geel has said that the Serie A club are the only bidders so far, but their offer did not match Feyenoord’s valuation.
He told RTV Rijnmond: “It is logical for the player to leave, but it has to be for the right club and the right price.
“I am happy we did not accept Lazio’s offer, as it was too low. After that, no other proposal has been received.”
Lazio are believed to have offered £5 million, and are ready to increase their bid to £6.5 million, but the player is prepared to wait for Manchester United.
Van Gaal knows de Vrij well, and the club urgently need defenders following the departures of Nemanja Vidic, Rio Ferdinand, and Patrice Evra.
United executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward has confirmed the club are ready to spend on new signings, revealing the club are looking at a number of targets.

De Vrij won 86% of his headed duels at the World Cup.
