Ah, La Décima. Those wonderful days long gone of joy and happiness. When Real Madrid was atop of European football for the tenth time and everything in the garden was rosy. Things have changed drastically since. The best player of that night has gone and in has come James Rodriguez, boy wonder of our times.
There's been all kinds of reports of Manchester United interest in Cristiano Ronaldo with the the ever eager Guillem Balague claiming on Monday that the Premier League club are compiling an offer for the player or have already done so.
Meanwhile, as players entered the Madrid training ground on Monday afternoon, ahead of their Champions League group fixture against FC Basel, several got grief from fans. One supporter tried to kick Gareth Bale's car, but just like his heroes of late... he missed.
All isn't well inside the training ground either. Spanish newspaper Marca have got a video of what they say is Ronaldo sending team mate James Rodriguez away from his training group to do a rondo with the club's Spaniards, something which appeared to confuse and irritate Rodriguez but make Ronaldo laugh. Overseas players such as Marcelo, Bale, Modric and Ronaldo were in one group and the Spaniards in another, Rodriguez wanted to be in the non Spaniard set but his teammate had other ideas. Carlo Ancelotti stood aside, willing to let Ronaldo dictate who the Colombian trained with.
That these comparatively small things are being blown up in Spain shows what a tinder box the situation is. If the media can drive a wedge between Rodriguez and Ronaldo then that would sell newspapers. Both have the same agent, Jorge Mendes.
